St. James', Shardlow and Great Wilne

St. James' Shardlow and Great Wilne

St. James’ Church was built in the 1830s to serve what had become at that time the largest inland port in the country. With its box-pews and tall pulpit it is a fascinating example of early Victorian architecture.

We have a versatile meeting-room, the Hayward Room , at the west end of the Church, which is available for community activities.

Our usual Sunday pattern is:

  • 1st Sunday in the month: 9.00 a.m. Holy Communion.
  • 2nd Sunday in the month: 10.30 a.m. Morning Prayer.
  • 3rd Sunday in the month: 10.30 a.m. Family Communion.
  • 4th Sunday in the month: 9.00 a.m. Holy Communion.

On the 4th Saturday in every month we hold a Coffee Morning from 10.00- 11.30 a.m. in the Hayward Room. We have a wonderful selection of home-made cakes for sale.

The Choir meets to practice on Thursday evenings at 7.00 p.m.. New members are always welcome.

The Evergreens meet on Wednesday afternoons in the Hayward Room.
